General Discussion
Emailed on 4/29/2024 to Putnam County Executive Byrne and Putnam County Legislators Gouldman and Crowley:
I was very surprised and disappointed to learn that you have endorsed Laura Russo as the County Legislator for District 4.
I believe it is very embarrassing for you to endorse a candidate who is not qualified for the position. The candidate has little experience in serving the local community unless you consider her failed leadership in heading the Putnam Lake Park Advisory Board that resulted in her being removed from the board by the Patterson Town Board as something to be proud of as an accomplishment.Â
More recently in the Town of Patterson elections held this past fall she failed to participate in the two Meet the Candidates Meetings or share with the community why she was qualified to serve on the Town Board. Â Â Due to her poor qualifications, lack of experience and failed leadership she lost the election and was not considered a serious candidate.Â
No where have I learned that she has the necessary skills, knowledge, experience, or ability to serve as a county legislator. As a legislator you are responsible for setting County policies, reviewing the administration of government, appropriating funding, levying taxes, reviewing and adopting the annual budget and enacting resolutions and local laws.Â
Your recommending an unqualified candidate is a reflection on you and your lack of good judgement and an affront to the residents of District 4.
So please explain to me and the residents of District 4 why you are endorsing candidate Russo for this extremely important position or inform me what I may have missed in considering her candidacy? Hopefully this just isn't a case of politics at work.
I look forward to your response.
